Believe it or not--HFStival is a crock.

By Ben (2000/05/19)

I hate WHFS1.

I have an out-of-town friend who asked me the other day if I was going to go the HFStival, and if it had sold out or not. This rant actually began its life as a response to his questions.

Of course it sold out in record time--even though they moved it to a much bigger place (FedEx field as opposed to RFK). They set a time limit for ticket sales. They give it like an hour, and then say its sold out, when in reality, it's probably only 1/2 sold out. They do this for the sole purpose of being able to say it sold out in record time on the air. They also hold back a bunch of tix to give away. Then, the day or so before the show, they come on the air and say, due to the incredible demand for HFStival tix, we have reconfigured the stage to allow more seats to be able to be sold. They've done it this way every year I can remember. They did it at the first HFStival I went to in 93. I actually believed it then--it being my first HFStival and all, and even the next year. Then I realized that the stage was the same both times. It's a crock, man. Nevermind the fact that the artists pretty much all suck. There is one or two I'd like to see, but that's about it.

1For those of you lucky enough to live outside of it's evil range, WHFS is a psuedo-alternative radio station based in the Baltimore/D.C. area. Every year they put on an all day concert they call the HFStival.
