The Downfall of Humanity
By Grant (2000/07/26)The human mind is an amazing thing. It can do some of the craziest things and yet still tick on. I am thinking of one thing in particular...memorizing song lyrics. How many times have you been driving, listening to the radio when a song comes on and you can sing the entire thing, yet you don't know the words? It happens to me all the time (I don't have the luxury of having a CD player or even a tape player in my car) and the thing that is most amazing of it all, after the song is finished I can't remember the lyrics to save my life!
However, the music industry has tapped into this, turning this talent to remember songs and sing lyrics into a form of marketing. We are inundated with crappy music from all over, yet one reason there is so much is that people like it...and they actually choose to listen to it!! The "industry" (probably a mob front) chooses whom to support and push their cronies (DJs) to play that music. The more people hear it, and sing it back to themselves, the more the music is programmed into the brains of the masses, increasing the control the "industry" has on the consumer, inversely increasing record sales of crappy bands, and decreasing the sales of bands that are worth listening to. Supply and demand curves move to meet the equilibrium and economics have destroyed the face of music.
True, you may say, but shouldn't people listen to what they like? The simple answer is no. Individuals are smart, at least some of them. People, on the other hand, are stupid. As a society, I am surprised the human race has lasted long enough to climb from the primordial sea of crap. If you have ever watched sheep, you will know what I am talking about. First, one jumps over another sheep. Then others start to jump, just because they saw another sheep do it. Soon, every last one of them are jumping like bullfrogs all over the glade. Sheep are stupid. So are people. This is the real reason why music sucks today.
By singing along in the car, at work or anything produced by an FCC (or for that matter, RIAA as well) approved form of communications, you are buying into this "industry" marketing scheme, destroying all that is good and holy. The onslaught of crappy music will do one thing: bring about the downfall of all humanity. So next time you turn the radio on, don't sing along. You are just aiding and abetting in the destruction of the human race. Unless you hate humanity...then go right ahead, you heartless bastard.
